About Us

Underwood’s Marine, founded in 2024 by Brisbane-based boatbuilder and adventurer Tom Robinson, reflects a lifelong passion for boats and the sea. Tom grew up on the banks of the Brisbane River, often rowing to and from school in a plywood dinghy. After school Tom completed a four-year apprenticeship at the Tripcony Slipway on Breakfast Creek. He then set about designing and building a 24’ ocean rowing boat which he would use to cross the Pacific Ocean. Aged 23, Tom set off from Peru on what would become a 7,000 mile journey across the Pacific, totalling 265 days at sea; a feat which earned him a Guinness World Record, and the title of Australian Geographic Young Adventurer of the Year. When not boatbuilding or rowing Tom also enjoys offshore racing, having competed in the Sydney to Hobart and Brisbane to Gladstone yacht races. Tom’s passion for boats has taken him to the biggest wooden boat festivals in Europe and the Southern Hemisphere, as well as far-flung regions of the South Pacific. Underwood’s Marine is Tom’s latest venture.
